"‘We Want to See Our Children’: A Life-or-Death Battle in Sector 2 of Badr 3 Prison"
Wednesday 9 July 2025

🔴 "We want to see our children".. A battle of life or death in Sector 2 of Badr 3 Prison
In a serious escalation inside Badr 3 Prison, Sector 2 — which houses 58 political detainees, most of whom are leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood — is witnessing a growing humanitarian disaster, after being deprived of visits for years, reaching up to 12 years.
📌 The demand is simple: a basic human right guaranteed by law and the constitution, which is to see their families.
However, instead of responding, the prison administration faced the detainees' demands with repression, stripping, and violations, based on instructions from the National Security Agency.
◾ In response to this obstinacy, the detainees proceeded to block surveillance cameras inside the cells, which led to extensive search and stripping campaigns that confiscated everything from the cells, including books and papers.
◾ Despite this, the detainees remained steadfast in their position, chanting throughout the day a unified slogan:
"We want to see our children."
◾ On June 20, an open-ended hunger strike began gradually, joined by 10 detainees, whose names were announced previously.
◾ With the administration ignoring their demands, several suicide attempts occurred, the most serious of which were three cases on Friday, July 4, amid escalating tragic conditions.
◾ During a visit by the Assistant Minister of Interior for Prison Affairs to the sector, the detainees demanded their right to visitation, to which the response was:
"The most we can do is bring you medicine and food, but visits are out of the question."
◾ On Saturday, July 5, a number of detainees attempted to present their health and psychological suffering during a trial session before Judge Mohamed Said El-Sherbiny, but the latter refused to even record their statements in the session's minutes.
◾ Detainee Ahmed Sherif, sentenced to life imprisonment, attempted to cut the veins in his hand in protest against being prevented from seeing his children, and refused to receive medical assistance until a formal report was filed, which the prison administration rejected. He was later rescued, and his condition is now stable.
◾ Yesterday, Tuesday, July 8, the prison authority launched a new, harsher stripping campaign, confiscating everything that remained with the detainees, including the Qurans.
◾ State Security officers also threatened anyone from other sectors who showed solidarity with the detainees in Sector 2 with transfer and retaliation.
🛑 Al-Shehab Human Rights Center:
🔹 Holds the Ministry of Interior, the Prison Authority, and the National Security Agency fully responsible for the lives of the hunger-striking detainees, especially the elderly and sick.
🔹 Calls for urgent intervention from local and international organizations to enable detainees to visit their families and end the isolation and violations against them.
🔹 Affirms that the continuation of these repressive policies will not suppress the demands but will escalate the humanitarian battle.
