news Wednesday 17 September 2025

🔴 Urgent appeal for the release of young man Mahmoud Gamal Abu Sari, 28 years old, behind bars due to "his love for Al-Ahly."

📌 The family of young Mahmoud Gamal Abu Sari (28 years old) is making an urgent plea for his immediate release and to lift the injustice he faces, after losing more than three years of his life behind bars without committing any crime.

✦ In 2019, Mahmoud was arrested simply for attending a football match and cheering for Al-Ahly club. He was later released and tried to rebuild his life by traveling abroad for work. However, upon his return in December 2023 to visit his family, he was shocked to be arrested immediately upon arriving at Borg El Arab Airport, beginning a new journey of suffering inside prisons.

✦ Since then, Mahmoud has been held in extremely harsh detention conditions, moving between Abu Zaabal Prison and Borg El Arab Prison, where he has faced solitary confinement, deprivation of visits and exercise, and denial of medical treatment or even the ability to exchange letters with his family. These conditions have led him to go on hunger strikes and attempt suicide multiple times, increasing his family's grave concern for his life.

⚠️ The family confirms that Mahmoud has lost his job and residency abroad, and his future has been completely shattered due to his continued detention without any fair legal justification, and his only "fault" is exercising his natural right to sports cheering.

✦ Therefore, the family urges the Egyptian authorities to intervene quickly for his release before he loses his life in prison, emphasizing that his release would not only be a matter of justice for him but also a message of hope for all young people who have unjustly lost their freedom due to their sports affiliations.
