Thursday 17 July 2025

🔴 In the latest developments of the hunger strike in Sector 2 at Badr 3 Prison
More violations and secrecy.. and a serious health deterioration among the detainees
▪️ In an attempt to impose complete isolation on the detainees in Sector 2 and prevent news of their strike from leaking out, the administration of Badr 3 Prison transferred several hospital supplies (beds, blood pressure and sugar measuring devices, solutions..) into the sector, aiming to handle cases of fainting internally without transferring them to the hospital, so that other detainees from different sectors of the prison would not witness it.
▪️ The total number of hunger strikers has risen to 35 detainees out of 58, including former Minister of Youth Dr. Osama Yassin, and a significant number of them are over 65 years old!
▪️ The following individuals were transferred:
– Former parliamentarian Dr. Mohamed Beltagy
– Dr. Ahmed Aref, the dentist and former spokesperson for the Brotherhood
to the medical center in the Badr prison complex due to serious health complications resulting from the hunger strike.
▪️ Dr. Mahmoud Ghazlan, a member of the Guidance Bureau, was also transferred to the medical center after suffering a heart attack (not among the hunger strikers).
▪️ Detainee Ahmed Sherif attempted suicide again due to the continued denial of visitation, and the prison administration refused to officially document his health condition.
▪️ Detainees in other sectors have expressed their solidarity with Sector 2, threatening to escalate and join the hunger strike unless the prison administration responds to their legitimate demands for visitation and exercise.
▪️ State Security officers, in coordination with the head of investigations and the prison warden, are exerting significant pressure on some detainees to end the hunger strike without any real response to their demands.
📢 Al-Shehab Human Rights Center holds the administration of Badr 3 Prison and the Ministry of Interior fully responsible for the safety of the detainees, and reiterates its demand to enable them to exercise their basic rights, foremost among which are visitation and healthcare.
