The death of Farid Shalaby inside the National Security premises in Kafr El-Sheikh after weeks of enforced disappearance and torture

The death of the detainee Farid Mohamed Abdel Latif Shalaby, known as "Sheikh Shalaby," from the village of Al-Ighrab in Kafr El-Sheikh governorate, was announced inside the premises of the Central Security Forces affiliated with the National Security Agency, after his arrest on Monday, July 7.

Farid had been pursued for years, and he was arrested and forcibly disappeared after being taken into custody, leading to episodes of torture and cruel treatment that ended with his death inside the detention facility.

🔹 Local testimonies indicated that his family was unaware of his detention location until they received a shocking call to collect his body, amidst complete security silence regarding the cause of death.

🔹 One close associate said:

“My brother tells me not to speak.. they are threatening me and they will take your sisters.”

🔹 The burial ceremony took place under heavy security at two o'clock in the morning, with five police vehicles, and the locals were expelled from the cemetery area.

The family was informed that the cause of death was a "stroke," despite the fact that Farid had been detained for more than 20 days under unknown circumstances, without any information about his detention location or health condition.

🛑 This crime is part of an ongoing series of violations occurring within detention facilities, especially those affiliated with the National Security Agency, which include torture, enforced disappearance, and the deprivation of detainees' legal and human rights.
