Human Rights Scene: Summary of Prison and Detention Violations - August 2025

In a continuation of systematic violations affecting the fundamental rights of detainees and prisoners in Egypt's jails and detention centers, the Al-Shehab Human Rights Center documented a concerning increase in the volume and nature of violations during August 2025. These included cases of death in prisons due to medical negligence, enforced disappearances, denial of visitation rights, hunger strikes, as well as the ongoing political trials and the arbitrary detention of human rights activists and opponents.

The violations varied from deliberate medical neglect, harassment, deteriorating prison conditions, and deprivation of basic rights for detainees, in addition to the continued phenomenon of enforced disappearances and the arrest of citizens outside the framework of the law. The center also monitored important judicial decisions, renewals of pretrial detention, and limited releases of defendants in political cases.

The Al-Shehab Center emphasizes that what has been documented represents only a part of a broader and harsher reality of human rights in the country, and it reiterates its demand for the Egyptian authorities to respect the constitution and the law, to stop all forms of violations, and to release all detainees held on political grounds.
