🟥 The death of detainee Hamdi Mohamed inside Minya Prison after being denied medical treatment
Detainee Hamdi Mohamed Mohamed Mohamed (63 years old) passed away on Friday, October 31, inside Minya Prison after his health deteriorated due to deliberate medical neglect.
Hamdi, a farmer from Wadi El Rayan – Fayoum, had been detained for a year and a half. During his detention at the Yusuf El Sidiq Police Station, he underwent open-heart surgery and stent replacement, and required continuous medical follow-up.
Despite this, he was transferred to Minya Prison without any healthcare provision, leading to a deterioration in his condition over the last four months after being sentenced to 10 years in prison in the case known in the media as the "storming of Yusuf El Sidiq Police Station" in 2013.
Despite repeated appeals from detainees for his transfer to the hospital, the prison administration merely kept him in an unprepared first aid room, until he breathed his last after a delayed transfer.
This is not the first case; over the past two months, the prison has witnessed the deaths of other detainees, including Saleh Abed, due to the same medical neglect and the denial of treatment to patients and the elderly.
🔴 The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center holds the Ministry of Interior fully responsible for the death of Hamdi Mohamed due to deliberate medical neglect.
It demands:
To open an urgent investigation into the incident of death.
To hold accountable those responsible for denying treatment and allowing detainees to die slowly inside prisons.
