Death of Detainee in Imbaba Police Station Amid Torture Suspicions

news Wednesday 12 November 2025

🟥 Death of a detainee inside Imbaba Police Station amid allegations of torture

The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center announces the death of the citizen

Ahmed Mustafa (Ahmed Gezira) – 35 years old – on the afternoon of Monday, November 10, 2025, inside Imbaba Police Station in Giza Governorate, amid strong suspicions that he was subjected to torture and ill-treatment.

According to the information received by the center:

Ahmed had been detained in the station for about 3 weeks, and he was in good health and did not suffer from any illnesses prior to his detention.

Witnesses confirmed that the poor conditions of detention and the harsh treatment led to the deterioration of his condition and his death in custody.

The family was pressured to force them to sign a statement indicating that the death was due to "acute circulatory failure" in exchange for allowing them to receive the body from the chest hospital morgue in Imbaba.

Testimonies from inside the station also indicate severe overcrowding in the detention rooms, as the station holds about 700 detainees in only 4 rooms out of 11, with an average of only 35 cm per person, while detainees are deprived of food, visits, and basic care.

🔴 The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center holds the Ministry of Interior and Imbaba Police Station fully responsible for the death, and calls on the Public Prosecutor to open an urgent and transparent investigation and hold those responsible accountable.
