🔴 Seven years without a verdict… Is that enough for a 74-year-old man?
The family of businessman Mohamed Thabet wonders: Is seven years of pretrial detention not enough to end his suffering?
His niece wrote after visiting him:
"I went to visit my uncle Mohamed Thabet, the man with a kind heart… I missed his sweet spirit, his jokes, and his delightful stories.
In the middle of his talk and laughter, he said to me: ‘Have you all forgotten that I am 74 years old or what?! You keep bringing me 50+ medications.’"
Mohamed Thabet entered prison in his sixties, and today he has surpassed seventy-four… Seven years of pretrial detention without a verdict, and without a clear legal justification, even though this procedure is exceptional and only related to the integrity of the investigation and the safety of the evidence.
The Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights asks along with the family:
Is there still evidence that needs protection after a full seven years?
