Detained lawyer Shams al-Din Ahmed Attallah dies in 10th of Ramadan prison following a sharp decline in health.

▪️ The detained lawyer Shams El-Din Ahmed Atta Allah died inside the Tenth of Ramadan prison, following a severe deterioration in his health condition during his detention, without being provided with the necessary medical care, in an incident that adds to the record of systematic medical neglect within prisons.


▪️ Shams El-Din had been detained since November 2021 in connection with case No. 2380 of 2021, Security of the State High Prosecution, due to his legal role in defending political detainees, in a blatant violation of the right to defense and the guarantees of the legal profession.


▪️ His death coincides with the continued enforced disappearance of his son, Mohamed Shams, since 2018, in a scene that reflects the policy of targeting entire families through arrest, disappearance, and deprivation of basic rights.


▪️ The death of a lawyer in custody due to medical neglect represents a grave crime, and the responsible authorities bear full legal responsibility for what has occurred, highlighting the seriousness of the humanitarian conditions inside places of detention.
