Urgent appeal: An imminent danger threatens the life of engineer Amin Abdel Hamid Al-Sayrafi amid a complete information blackout regarding his place of detention.
The Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights expresses its deep concern regarding the deteriorating health and humanitarian situation of the political detainee engineer Amin Abdel Hamid Al-Sayrafi, the private secretary of the late President Dr. Mohamed Morsi, amidst his continued arbitrary detention and severe violations that threaten his life and safety.
Engineer Amin Al-Sayrafi is 61 years old and has been detained since July 3, 2013, after being arrested from inside the presidential palace while performing his official duties, which means he has been in detention for more than 12 consecutive years. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison in connection with case number 10154, Second October Criminal Court of 2014, registered under number 3690, South Giza of 2014, known in the media as the case of espionage with Qatar.
The Al-Shehab Center reports concerning information regarding a complete blackout of news about his current place of detention and health condition, raising serious fears of him facing new enforced disappearance or being transferred without notifying his family or lawyer.
According to the documentation by the center, Al-Sayrafi has suffered from malnutrition and a systematic starvation policy, leading to a noticeable weight loss, with restrictions on the entry of winter clothing and blankets and the absence of any heating means, despite the extremely cold nature of the prison design, which has exacerbated the deterioration of his health condition amid deliberate medical neglect.
Engineer Amin Al-Sayrafi also participated in a hunger strike inside Badr 3 prison, and the attempts of the prison authorities to dissuade him from continuing were unsuccessful, indicating the serious extent of the violations he is facing.
The Al-Shehab Center reminds that it previously published an appeal on July 24, 2025, regarding Al-Sayrafi, based on a letter from his family, documenting severe violations, including:
Stripping his cell and transferring him to disciplinary confinement despite being in prolonged solitary confinement.
Experiencing injuries, fractures, and wounds without receiving medical care.
Entering into a total hunger strike for food and medicine with several detainees.
Reports of fainting and diabetic coma inside his detention.
The complete absence of information regarding his health status and place of detention.
The center confirmed at that time that these developments signal an imminent danger to his life.
The continued detention of engineer Amin Al-Sayrafi under these harsh conditions, along with his advancing age, the solitary confinement he has endured, the hunger strike, and medical neglect, poses a real danger to his life, holding the Egyptian authorities fully responsible for his safety and for any health deterioration or harm that may befall him.
The Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights demands:
Immediate disclosure of his current place of detention and health status.
Ending solitary confinement and all forms of cruel treatment.
Enabling him to receive visits, exercise, and get sunlight.
Providing urgent medical care and appropriate nutrition.
Allowing the entry of winter clothing and blankets and providing heating means.
Opening an independent and serious investigation into all the violations he has faced.
What engineer Amin Abdel Hamid Al-Sayrafi is experiencing represents a blatant violation of the Egyptian constitution and international covenants, and cannot be justified under any circumstances.
