Legal campaign in support of torture victims on the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture

On the occasion of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, Al‑Shehab Human Rights Center announces the campaign “Medical Neglect as Systematic Torture,” in cooperation with a number of human rights institutions, during the period from 20 to 30 June, to shed light on the conditions of older persons and patients inside prisons and places of detention, and on what they are subjected to in terms of medical neglect and violations that threaten their right to life and to human dignity.

🔴 The campaign includes a number of key cases, most notably:

• Criminalization of torture in international and domestic laws

• Medical neglect as a form of slow torture.

• The conditions of older persons and patients behind bars.

• Deaths resulting from deprivation of healthcare.

• Critical health cases inside prisons.

🔴 We call on everyone to engage with the campaign by posting, sharing, and using the campaign hashtag, to help convey the voices of patients and older persons behind bars to the public and to the relevant international bodies.
