📢 Human rights campaign | The forcibly disappeared are alive in memory

On the occasion of the International Day of Victims of Enforced Disappearance—30 August—Al Shehab Center for Human Rights, in cooperation with a number of human rights organizations, launches a human rights campaign entitled:

 «Forcibly disappeared… alive in memory»

This campaign comes to break the silence of absence and shed light on one of the most egregious crimes against human dignity, by explaining its legal framework, documenting cases, and amplifying the voices of victims and their families who live in anticipation of truth and the unknown.

⚖️ Campaign pillars and objectives

🔹 Legal grounding

Raising awareness of the concept of the crime of enforced disappearance and its elements, in accordance with international human rights standards and instruments.

🔹 The human dimension

Highlighting victims’ stories and drawing attention to the psychological and social suffering their families endure as a result of not knowing the fate of their loved ones.

🔹 Digital documentation

Preparing data and statistics on cases of enforced disappearance in Egypt, from 2013 to the present, contributing to documenting the scale of the phenomenon and its evolution.

🔹 Exposing violations

Warning about the gravity of the crime of enforced disappearance and what may accompany it, including deprivation of liberty, ill-treatment, torture, and the denial of fair trial guarantees.

🔹 Accountability and demands

Calling on authorities and relevant bodies, locally and internationally, to immediately disclose the fate of the forcibly disappeared, ensure their legal and human protection, and hold those responsible for violations accountable.
