The Al‑Shehab Human Rights Center expresses deep concern and condemnation regarding the death of citizen “Ahmed Muhammad Ali Abu Sana” (32 years old — a tuk-tuk driver who suffers from a mobility disability and diabetes) inside First Tanta Police Station, after he fell into a diabetic coma and his cries and urgent need for medical care were ignored.

📌 Incident details and systemic negligence:

Detention and health deterioration: He was detained for about a month on charges related to misdemeanor check cases, despite his suffering from diabetes and a physical disability.

Denial of treatment and transport: He entered an acute diabetic coma inside his place of detention. His family reported a blatant violation in which the station officials refused to release him or transfer him to the hospital to receive urgent first aid; this led to the deterioration of his condition and his death inside the station.

Family devastation: The victim was the father of two children (Sama and Muhammad). He had been working as a driver of his own “tuk-tuk” before it was stolen from him a year ago.

Wasted right to life: The refusal to provide first aid and to transfer the patient in medical emergencies is a crime of failure to render assistance that rises to the level of intentional killing through negligence.

⚖️ Al‑Shehab Center’s demands:

Immediate judicial investigation: Calling on the Public Prosecution to open an independent and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Ahmed Abu Sana and to determine the reasons he was not transferred to the hospital.

Accountability and responsibility: Identifying the criminal and administrative responsibilities of officers and personnel of First Tanta Police Station, and holding accountable those responsible for depriving the deceased of treatment.

Announcement of results: Requiring the competent authorities to disclose the findings of forensic medicine reports and judicial investigations and to inform the family of them.

Ensuring the right to treatment: Emphasizing that detention does not negate the fundamental right to life and urgent medical care for all detainees.
