Continued Enforced Disappearance of Citizen Ahmed Mohamed Abdo Ibrahim Since September 2017 in Al-Arish, North Sinai
Al-Shehab Human Rights Center monitors the continued enforced disappearance of citizen Ahmed Mohamed Abdo Ibrahim since his arrest on 7 September 2017, from inside Dr. Ahmed Al-Tarmasi’s pharmacy in the Al-Safa area in the city of Al-Arish, North Sinai Governorate, without any disclosure to date of the location of his detention or his fate.
According to information received by the Center, security forces arrested him led by Officer Ahmed Othman, and since that date his whereabouts have been completely unknown. His family has been unable to determine where he is being held or to ensure his safety, despite more than nine years having passed since the incident.
Despite filing a complaint with the Public Prosecution and contacting the relevant authorities, as well as searching for him in several prisons, including Tora Prison, Jomasa Prison, and the prisons of Ismailia, in addition to the Prison Authority, these attempts have not yielded any information that reveals his location or fate to date.
Al-Shehab Human Rights Center expresses its deep concern over Ahmed Mohamed Abdo Ibrahim’s disappearance continuing throughout these years, and what this represents as a serious violation of human rights, in addition to the human and psychological suffering his family has been experiencing as a result of the ongoing ambiguity surrounding his fate.
The Center calls on the Public Prosecution and the relevant authorities to immediately disclose his whereabouts and fate, to conduct a serious investigation into the circumstances of his arrest and disappearance, to ensure his physical and psychological safety, to enable his family to be reassured about his condition, and to release him unless he is being held under sound legal procedures.
