Open Hunger Strike in Badr 3 in Protest Against Isolation and Violations
📩 The Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights received a message from Professor Dr. Abdelrahman Al-Bar – Professor of Hadith and its Sciences at Al-Azhar University, and former Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Theology in Mansoura, who is detained in Sector 2 of Badr 3 Prison – announcing his initiation of an open hunger strike since July 1, 2025, along with dozens of detainees in the same sector, in protest against the deterioration of humanitarian conditions and their deprivation of the most basic rights.
🗣️ Al-Bar stated in his message:
"I, along with dozens from Sector 2 in Badr 3 Prison, have entered into a complete and open hunger strike since July 1, 2025, in protest against the poor humanitarian conditions... We appeal to the conscience of the free world to know that a group of people are being treated as if we existed before the state, with no law, no accountability, no rights."
He added:
"We are prevented from exercising, seeing the sun, and there is a complete ban on visits, correspondence, and communication with lawyers or the outside world... Elderly individuals between sixty and ninety are having their health and dignity wasted, and are deprived of medical treatment."
He concluded his message by saying:
"We have announced the initiation of an open hunger strike – a battle of empty stomachs – and some have begun attempts at suicide; not out of despair, but as a cry of protest that may reach those with a conscience."
🛑 Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights:
– Holds the Ministry of Interior and the Prisons Authority fully responsible for the safety of detainees in Sector 2 of Badr 3 Prison.
– Calls for an urgent investigation into the systematic violations against political detainees.
– Demands the international community and human rights organizations to intervene immediately to save the lives of the hunger strikers.
