Human Rights Landscape Report for July
Sunday 3 August 2025

In a continuation of systematic violations affecting the basic rights of detainees and prisoners in Egypt's jails and detention centers, the Al-Shehab Human Rights Center documented a concerning escalation in the scale and nature of violations during July 2025. These included cases of death in prisons due to medical negligence, torture and ill-treatment, enforced disappearances, denial of visitation rights, hunger strikes, in addition to the ongoing political trials and the arbitrary detention of human rights activists and opponents.
The violations varied between deliberate medical neglect, harassment and torture, deterioration of prison conditions, and deprivation of detainees' basic rights, in addition to the continued phenomenon of enforced disappearance and the arrest of citizens outside the legal framework. The center also recorded important judicial decisions, renewals of pretrial detention, and limited releases of defendants in political cases.
The Al-Shehab Center asserts that what has been documented represents only a part of a broader and harsher reality of human rights in the country. It reiterates its demand for the Egyptian authorities to respect the constitution and the law, to halt all forms of violations, and to release all detainees held on political grounds.
