🔴 Arbitrary arrest and enforced disappearance of Hamas Sami Fahim Al-Far and her family as part of a systematic pattern targeting opposing families in Damietta
The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center has documented that security forces and national security raided the home of citizen Hamas Sami Fahim Al-Far in New Damietta, where they destroyed the contents of the house and abducted her along with one of her minor relatives, before subjecting her to enforced disappearance for several hours without allowing her family or lawyer to know her place of detention.
Later, Hamas Al-Far appeared and was presented to the prosecution, which decided to detain her for 15 days pending a politically motivated case related to financing accusations, alongside another woman, while the child who was with her was released.
This incident is part of a series of violations that have affected the Al-Far family for years, as her brothers Ali Sami Al-Far and Emad Sami Al-Far were extrajudicially executed in 2017, and her third brother was arrested and falsely charged, and he remains in detention to this day.
Additionally, her father died in a traffic accident after being released following a period of detention during which he was subjected to severe violations, and the family home in the village of Al-Basarta in Damietta Governorate was demolished after being burned by security forces, and the family is still prohibited from returning to it or rebuilding it until now.
The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center expresses its deep concern over the continued repressive practices against women and members of opposing families, and calls on the Egyptian authorities to:
- Immediately release Hamas Sami Al-Far and all those detained on political grounds.
- Stop the policy of persecution against families, which represents a blatant violation of the principles of the Egyptian constitution, law, and the state's international obligations.
- Ensure the rights of detainees to their physical and psychological safety and enable them to communicate with their families and lawyers.
