The death of political detainee Saleh Ayed Rabie inside Minya Public Prison (Liman 1)
The family of the sentenced Saleh Ayed Rabie, who is 40 years old, has submitted numerous requests to the Public Prosecutor regarding the severe deterioration of his health condition inside Minya Liman 1 prison, amid deliberate medical neglect by the prison administration and its refusal to transfer him for appropriate treatment.
Saleh Ayed Rabie has been detained since August 20, 2013, after being arrested by security forces, and he has remained in custody since that date without receiving the necessary healthcare guaranteed by the constitution and law for detainees.
About a year ago, he developed a tumor in the neck area, but the prison administration completely ignored his condition and refused to refer him to a specialist doctor or transfer him to one of the government medical centers specialized in treating tumors, which led to the tumor spreading throughout his body and exacerbated his suffering with a sharp drop in blood pressure and a continuous rise in temperature, without any serious medical intervention other than providing some painkillers, in clear violation of medical and humanitarian standards.
His family holds the Egyptian Prison Authority, the administration of Minya Liman 1 prison, and the Egyptian Public Prosecutor fully responsible for the legal, constitutional, and humanitarian consequences of the death of detainee Saleh Ayed Rabie.
The Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights calls on the Public Prosecutor to open an urgent investigation into the incident of death and to hold accountable those responsible, especially as cases of medical negligence leading to death have increased, violating the provisions of the constitution and law.
