"Continued Suffering of the 'Alexandria Family' After 17 Months of Forced Disappearance: Lack of Healthcare in Detention Amid Total Judicial Neglect"

news Thursday 23 October 2025

The suffering of the "Alexandria family" continues after 17 months of enforced disappearance, with a complete absence of healthcare in their detention and total disregard from the judiciary.

More than 500 days have passed since their enforced disappearance and their later appearance before the State Security Prosecution. The Alexandria family, who were arrested on May 27, 2024, continues to endure harsh detention conditions and deprivation of basic healthcare, with their pretrial detention ongoing without any legal justification.

The family includes:

• Mr. Nasser Abdel Moneim Abdel Naim, 62 years old.

• Mrs. Amal Abdel Salam Ibrahim, his wife, 59 years old.

• Engineer Ghada Abdel Salam Ibrahim, his sister, 52 years old.

• Ms. Riham Nasser Abdel Moneim, his daughter.

• Mr. Wael Abdel Razek Mohamed, her husband.

Sources close to the family confirmed that the health condition of several family members requires urgent medical follow-up, including tests, X-rays, and medication, but the response from the prison administration is very weak, exacerbating their physical and psychological suffering.

One of the women suffers from an autoimmune disease affecting her bones and is forced to use a ground toilet that is unsuitable for her health condition. She has submitted a request to be transferred to a more humane and health-appropriate location, but the prison administration has not responded to this request so far.

During court sessions, they are not allowed to speak or present their complaints, and only "the pretrial detention is renewed for 45 days" is noted, without any clear legal justification, completely ignoring their health and humanitarian circumstances.

The Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights reiterates its demand for the immediate release of the detainees and affirms that their continued arbitrary detention constitutes a flagrant violation of the law, the constitution, and all international treaties.

The center also holds the Public Prosecution and the Prisons Authority responsible for the deterioration of the health condition of family members and calls on the Egyptian judiciary to listen to their defense and put an end to the absurd cycle of pretrial detention.

It is worth mentioning that the Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights had published about the family at the time of their arrest and enforced disappearance for more than 174 days in 2024. For more information, visit:
