Serious Deterioration in Dr. Mohamed Beltagi's Health in Solitary Confinement at Badr 3 Prison

news Saturday 25 October 2025

⚠️ Serious deterioration in the health of Dr. Mohamed Beltagy inside his solitary confinement in Badr 3 prison

Information has reached the Al-Shehab Human Rights Center indicating a serious deterioration in the health condition of Dr. Mohamed Beltagy, who is held in solitary confinement in Sector (2) of Badr Rehabilitation and Correction Center (Badr 3). Sources reported that he has started to move in a wheelchair after losing the ability to walk due to the deterioration of his health.

Dr. Beltagy has been suffering from kidney dysfunction and high blood pressure, and his condition has worsened following his recent hunger strike.

It is worth noting that Dr. Mohamed Beltagy, who has been imprisoned since August 2013, is deprived of his natural right to exercise and exposure to sunlight, in addition to being denied family visits and communication with the outside world for more than ten years, with the last visit from his family occurring in early 2015 through a glass barrier.

The Al-Shehab Human Rights Center holds the Ministry of Interior fully legally responsible for the deterioration of Dr. Beltagy's health, in light of systematic practices of deliberate medical neglect against opponents inside Egyptian prisons.

The center calls on the Public Prosecutor to fulfill his legal role and assign one of his subordinates to visit Badr 3 prison to ascertain the reality of the conditions and the arbitrary measures being practiced by prison officers against Dr. Mohamed Beltagy.
