news Tuesday 30 December 2025

⚫ Rising Tension and Collective Protests Inside Badr Prison (3)

🔴 Beginning of the Crisis

The situation inside Badr Prison (3) is experiencing escalating tension following a series of violations and arbitrary measures that began with verbal assaults and ended with the deaths of several detainees due to medical negligence and mistreatment, prompting detainees to engage in collective protests that are still ongoing.

🔴 Security Assaults Spark Escalation

According to the information received, the crisis began after Lieutenant Ahmed Sobhi verbally assaulted and insulted one of the detainees inside Sector (4), which led the detainees to cover the surveillance cameras in protest of the incident.

In response, several security personnel intervened and issued direct threats to the detainees, followed by the imposition of arbitrary and punitive measures against them.

🔴 Collective Protest Inside the Prison

In response to these violations, detainees from all sectors of Badr Prison (3) announced a collective covering of the surveillance cameras in protest against what they described as systematic medical negligence, which has led to the deaths of more than four detainees within a year.

🔴 Administrative Decisions Increased Tension

The prison has witnessed recent administrative changes following the appointment of a new administration, which included:

▪️ Reducing exercise times

▪️ Shortening the duration during the week

▪️ Imposing strict restrictions on visits

In protest against this, the detainees announced a complete refusal to go out for exercise, asserting that these policies have exacerbated their health and psychological suffering.

🔴 Death Due to Medical Negligence Inside the Prison

The escalation coincided with the deterioration of the health condition of an elderly detainee, who was transferred to the prison's medical center after his condition worsened, amid repeated complaints about the lack of medical care and delays in treatment intervention.

With the continued medical negligence, he was later transferred to a hospital outside the prison, where he died after discovering he had a late-stage tumor, reflecting a recurring pattern of medical neglect inside Badr Prison (3).

🔴 Repeated Deaths Confirm a Dangerous Pattern

This death comes shortly after the death of another detainee inside the same prison, following a late diagnosis of a serious illness, which raises concerns about the medical policies in place at Badr Prison (3) and confirms the existence of a systematic pattern of medical neglect.

🔴 Crisis in Sector (2) and Violations Ongoing for 13 Years

These events bring attention back to the conditions in Sector (2), which houses several leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood, where they are subjected to compounded abuses that include:

▪️ Banning visits

▪️ Denial of exercise

▪️ Prohibiting the introduction of food and messages

▪️ Continued isolation for periods exceeding 13 years

This is despite their repeated hunger strikes and previous suicide attempts, with no change in the prison administration's policies.

🔴 Ongoing Protests Inside the Cells

The state of tension inside the prison continues, as detainees are:

▪️ Knocking on the doors of the cells after each call to prayer

▪️ Chanting slogans demanding freedom and respect for human dignity

▪️ Hanging banners inside some sectors affirming the continuation of escalation and protest

🔴 Open Hunger Strike

In a serious development, Dr. Reda Al-Mohamadi has entered an open hunger strike in protest against the conditions inside the prison, which detainees have described as a blatant violation of international treaties and legal obligations regarding the rights of prisoners.

🔴 Condemnation and Demands from Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights

Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights condemns the grave violations inside Badr Prison (3), foremost among them mistreatment and medical negligence that have led to deaths within the prison, in a systematic pattern that violates the right to life and human dignity.

The center demands an urgent and independent investigation, accountability for those responsible for the violations, an immediate halt to collective punitive measures, and ensuring the provision of medical care, exercise, and visitation in accordance with the law and international standards.

The center holds the relevant authorities fully responsible for any new violations or deaths, emphasizing that impunity exacerbates the crisis within places of detention.
