Continued Enforced Disappearance of Citizen Riad Mohamed Atiya Al-Shahat Al-Rabab Since July 2017 After He Was Taken From His Home in Arish, North Sinai

Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights monitors the continued enforced disappearance of citizen Riad Mohamed Atiya Al-Shahat Al-Rabab, 48 years old, who works as a driver, and is from the city of Arish in North Sinai Governorate, since 1 July 2017, after he was taken from his home, without any disclosure of the location of his detention or his fate to date.

According to information received by the Center, Riad was taken from inside his home in the city of Arish, and since that date his whereabouts have been completely unknown. His family has been unable to determine where he is or his legal status, amid his continued disappearance for more than nine years, with no information available to reveal his fate.

His family continues to suffer ongoing human and psychological distress as a result of the ambiguity surrounding his fate, amid growing fears for his life and safety, in the absence of any information that would allow them to feel reassured about him throughout these years.

Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights expresses its profound concern about the continued enforced disappearance of Riad Mohamed Atiya Al-Shahat Al-Rabab. It emphasizes that the continuation of his disappearance and the deprivation of his family of knowing his fate for this period necessitate urgent intervention by the competent authorities to uncover the circumstances of the incident.

The Center calls on the Public Prosecutor and the relevant authorities to immediately disclose his whereabouts and fate, conduct a serious and independent investigation into the circumstances of his being taken from his home and his disappearance, ensure his physical and psychological safety, enable his family to be reassured about him, and release him immediately if it is established that he is being held without legal grounds.
