Despite his diabetes and undergoing open-heart surgery… Continued enforced disappearance of citizen Saad El-Din Hosni Abdullah since March 2017 in El-Arish

Shahab Center for Human Rights Monitoring documents the continued enforced disappearance of citizen Saad El-Din Hosni Abdullah, 63 years old, who works as a taxi driver, since his arrest on 25 March 2017 from his home in the city of El-Arish, North Sinai Governorate, without any disclosure of the location of his detention or his fate to date.

According to his family’s statement, forces affiliated with National Security arrested him from inside his home and took him from his bed despite his health condition. He suffers from diabetes and had undergone open-heart surgery only three months before his arrest.

The family confirmed that all news of him has completely ceased since the incident of his arrest. They have been unable to know where he is being held or to ensure his health, despite the passage of more than nine years, amid growing fears for his life—particularly in light of his chronic illnesses and his need for medical care and continuous health follow-up.

Shahab Center for Human Rights Monitoring expresses its deep concern about the continued enforced disappearance of Saad El-Din Hosni Abdullah, especially given his health condition, which raises serious concerns regarding his safety and the possibility that his life may be put at risk as a result of being deprived of the necessary medical care should his detention continue.

The Center calls on the Public Prosecutor and the relevant authorities to immediately disclose the location of his detention and his fate, to conduct serious and independent investigations into the circumstances of his arrest and disappearance, to ensure his physical and psychological safety, to provide him with the necessary medical care urgently, to enable his family to be reassured about him, and to release him immediately if it is established that he is being held without any legal basis.
