⚫️ Serious Violations Inside the Women's Prison at the Rehabilitation and Correction Center in 10th of Ramadan
Cell (4) in the women's prison at the Rehabilitation and Correction Center in 10th of Ramadan is witnessing a dangerous escalation in violations against political detainees, as part of systematic arbitrary practices by the prison administration, without any legal or security justification, representing a clear violation of the Egyptian constitution and the laws governing prisons, in addition to international human rights standards.
The detainees have been subjected for more than a month to a series of collective punitive measures, including:
▪️ The complete cancellation of exposure to sunlight, which was previously allowed periodically, in clear violation of the minimum standards for the treatment of prisoners.
▪️ Reducing the daily exercise and ventilation time from one and a half hours to only one hour, negatively affecting the physical and mental health of the detainees.
▪️ Imposing arbitrary restrictions on visits and refusing to allow the entry of some essential personal items without any legal justification.
▪️ Completely closing the ventilation openings in the cells, leading to a lack of ventilation and creating inhumane detention conditions that amount to cruel and degrading treatment.
The Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights affirms that the continuation of these practices poses a real threat to the safety of the detainees, and calls on the Attorney General to intervene immediately, in accordance with the legal duty entrusted to him, to take the necessary urgent measures to stop these violations and hold those responsible accountable.
