The father of Mrs. Alaa Mohamed Abdel Aal wrote painful words on his Facebook page that reflect the extent of the oppression and suffering that families endure due to the pursuit and detention of women, stating:
“There is nothing harder on the soul than the imprisonment of girls and women…
But it is the helplessness and oppression of men…
O Allah, we turn away from our strength and power to Your strength and power…
O Lord, whoever has harmed us regarding our daughters and women, destroy them as You destroyed the people of Aad, Thamud, Pharaoh, and his soldiers…
O Lord, keep Alaa and her sisters under Your protection and care…
Bring them back to us with Your strength and power.”
The Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights affirms that the pursuit and detention of women and their use as a means of pressure represent a serious violation of rights and freedoms. It demands an immediate halt to the targeting and mistreatment of women, and calls for the respect of their dignity and their rights guaranteed by law and constitution.
