Labor leader Shadi Mohamed's detention extended for 45 days in solidarity with Palestine.

news Sunday 28 December 2025

The detention of labor leader Shadi Mohamed has been renewed for 45 days in connection with his solidarity with Palestine.

The Second Terrorism Circuit of the Cairo Criminal Court, convened at the Badr Security Complex, has decided to renew the detention of labor leader Shadi Mohamed and another defendant for 45 days, pending case number 1644 of 2024, known in the media as the "Palestine Support Banner Case," after nearly 20 months of pretrial detention.

The prosecution has charged Shadi Mohamed with "establishing a terrorist group," while the other defendants have faced repetitive standard charges, including "joining a terrorist group" and "spreading false news."

The events of the case date back to April 2024, following the arrest of Shadi Mohamed and five other young men for raising a banner expressing peaceful solidarity with the Palestinian people over one of the bridges in Alexandria, without any call for violence or harm to public facilities.

Shadi Mohamed attended the renewal session via video conference from his detention in Borg Al Arab Prison, while four other defendants were absent from the session, with no announced decisions regarding their legal status so far.

The Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights affirms that the continued detention of the defendants for exercising their right to peaceful expression constitutes a serious violation of fundamental rights and freedoms, and calls for:

▪️ The immediate release of all those detained in cases of peaceful solidarity.

▪️ An end to the misuse of pretrial detention as a tool for punishment outside the framework of the law.
