Continued enforced disappearance of citizen Haitham Khalil Naim Abdullah since December 2014 after he was taken from his home in Arish, North Sinai

Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights monitors the continued enforced disappearance of citizen Haitham Khalil Naim Abdullah, 46 years old, from the Abu Saql area in the city of Arish, North Sinai Governorate, since 3 December 2014, after he was taken from his home, without any disclosure of the location of his detention or his fate to date.

According to his family’s statement, Haitham was taken from inside his home, and since that date all news about him has completely ceased. His family has been unable to know his whereabouts or fate, amid the continuation of his disappearance for nearly 12 years, alongside fears for his life and safety.

The family continues to suffer ongoing human and psychological distress as a result of the ambiguity surrounding his fate, and the absence of any information that could reveal the circumstances of his detention or his legal status throughout these years.

Al-Shehab Center for Human Rights expresses its deep concern regarding the continued disappearance of Haitham Khalil Naim Abdullah, stressing that depriving his family of knowing his fate requires urgent intervention by the competent authorities to reveal the circumstances of his disappearance and end the suffering of his family.

The Center calls on the Public Prosecutor and the relevant authorities to immediately disclose his whereabouts and fate, conduct a serious and independent investigation into the circumstances of his being taken from his home and his disappearance, ensure his physical and psychological safety, enable his family to be reassured about him, and release him immediately if it is established that he is being held without any legal basis.
